I Remember Autumn II

[Baut Images: Amongst the Leaves]

I remember Autumn (as a child).
Smoky scents upon a crisping breeze,
And images of baked potatoes.

Frost.

Clear blue skies.

Hazy amber sun setting.

October's children running past the house.

But most of all, the cool, fresh evenings
That chilled me to the bone,
And made me long for All Hallow's Eve.

But I was a child (then).

A potential.

Dreaming.

Dreaming still.

Though the child's body has gone,
Yet, the child lives on inside.
I remember Autumn (with a sigh).

Not sure if anyone noticed but I was having some severe IE9 problems with my blogspot as you were leaving your comments.

I'm using Google Chrome, but I can't stop IE9 from coming in and doing some mischief.

    Thanks again!

  6. Autumn is my favorite season and i was finally swept away to it here in your words. Been like 105 here every day for 2 months.

I am a born and raised Canadian and miss a "real" fall.

    "October's children" LOVE that image.

Glad you are still dreaming -- hope you always will, yet something tells me you will! us poet-types do tend to, don't we?

  9. Nice to hear from you Jannie, and appreciate your sentiments...and 'yes' I'm still dreaming...I think I'm one, and always will be, one of the October children...even though I was born in April.

  14. This is really good, Love the structure, especially the lines to themselves, as their separation deepens the entire piece. Thanks for sharing over at D'verse.

  17. Roger! What wonderful memories, and with those that you shared, I so look forward to the coming season. I can smell it coming in the evening air, I can almost see it in the slant of the sunshine through the stained glass windows of this old house...those memories make the child awake, and once again I find myself saying thank you :)

  18. You're quite welcome and so nice to see you Heaven! Glad you like the line "the child who lives inside." It helps us remember that it is only the physical body that ages, the spirit-being, which is the true us, and lives inside our body never ages...

I love to travel back into different times of my life, as I have been very blessed and have had a number of remarkable/wonderful experiences...of course there have been some 'not so good' times too...but that is life!

    Thanks again,
    Roger ☺

  20. Hi yah Natasha! So nice to have you stop by and leave me your thoughts, and I thank you for sharing them. It is through our thoughts and feelings that we can almost travel backward (and sometimes forward) in time.

I can see everyhting as it was and travel back into my youth...so wonderful those Autumnal days...and memories do indeed, awaken us...and awakens the sometimes, sleeping being that is within us.

Open the door, let the child of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter run out and play amongst the sleeping daffodils, roses, pumpkins and snowmen...and simply 'BE' Thanks again for stopping by Natasha, always a pleasure! ☺

  22. I'm longing for your autumn now as well. The colors and smells. It's never been my favorite season, but there's something very real about it no other time has. I'm old enough to remember the smell of piles and piles of leaves burning...nothing like it, and your poem brought it all back. Loved it, Roger. (Beautiful photo as well--what a color in those leaves!)
