The Buckeye Confesses

[Baut Images: Buckeye Butterfly]

I must confess, O Son of Man,
I am merely a buckeye butterfly.

Once upon a time, I know,
The air was free from exhaust.

Who sails upon the summer breeze,
Loving all the lands that I see.

For once upon a time, I know,
The grasses were pesticide free.

And while flitting from flower to flower,
Ive seen the results of your power.

And once upon a time, I know,
The water ran free from your chemicals.

Watching my kin growing fewer and fewer,
As I felt the pain like a skewer.

And, I must confess, O Son of Man,
Much damage has been done at your hand.

Once upon a time...

Once upon a...

Once...

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

...and a big thank you Natasha for being you, and all that you do!

  1. It is a wonder - and a horror - to think how many species have ceased to be, simply due to our own unfortunate tenure on this planet. Good has been done, surely, but so too has much evil...

  2. So many have gone the way of the dodo, thanks in most part to mankind. Great write!

  3. Hey Chris! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, indeed, the Son of Man has done much damage to the planet...nuclear waste, fracking, chemicals! We are the only species on the planet that maims, tortures, and kills others of its own species, not to mention everything else that lives on the planet; as well as the planet...but as it is said, "This too shall pass away." Thanks again! Roger ☺

  4. Hi Pat! Nice to see you...yup, the dodo, passenger pigeon, et cetera...not a bright legacy for Homo sapiens! Glad you liked it! Roger ☺

  7. Yes, if the other species could talk, we'd hear an earful, Roger. And if they could hire lobbyists, maybe the world would be better off. Loved the words, and the amazing and beautiful picture.

  8. Hi ya Stephen! Glad you like the poem and formatting! It wasn't easy, and IE9 caused me to lose it...I've done a couple 2 & 3 tier poems before...so I had a little practice! Roger ☺

  9. Yes, Anthony, mankind has done some real damage to the planet, flora and fauna and his own species. It's almost like the majority of the population has a self-destruct gene built in...too many plants, animals and people have died out of pure greed and the desire to 'rule' others...sad! Glad you liked the poem...Hope your week is going well...and never foget...You can make a difference and as Koich Tohei-sensei says, "One little light can light ten thousand." Roger ☺

  10. Howdee Joy! So, true! Glad you liked the poem and picture. Wondering if you saw the face in the butterflies unfolded wings...pretty interesting! Thanks again...Roger ☺

  11. If man only didn't disconnect from other living creatures, we'd leave less damage on our delicate and tiny sphere. Well said.

  12. Thanks for coming by and leaving your thoughts! So true Gay and so pleased you liked the poem! This species seems to keep disconnecting more and more...from everything...Roger ☺

  13. really like the thought you put into structure the two voices...and really like the strong enviro message as well...will we ever learn...unfortunately i dont think so...

  14. Roger! The video add...brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Oh my...I could cry at the thought of her voice, that we have done so much for ourselves, while we are content to leave the "lesser" beings to fend for themselves. To love, respect and appreciate all...it's not Rocket Science! And we KNOW this and what we're doing...and still we persist. Things will change...they must change, and it will start with me, and you, and all the wonderful readers who take from this the same as me. The better side of ourselves is desperately needed! Let's answer their call! Thank YOU Roger...

  15. Hi Brian! Thanks so much for visiting and leaving your thoughts, and happy you liked the two voices and enviro message! "Will we ever learn," is a good question...perhaps not today...but one day! Oh, and happy belated birthday! Hope it was a pleasant one! Cheers! Roger ☺

  16. Hi there Natasha! So happy you liked how everything turned out, and the video add! This was not an easy one, after losing the original poem. Not to mention having IE9 problems with blogspot. But, it all came together Natasha! YAY!

Yes, I agree, "The better side of ourselves is desperately needed! Let's answer their call!" And as Koichi Tohei-sensei says, "one little light can light ten thousand!"

    Thanks again!

  20. ..ah, how sad these changes are... all is getting endangered... and i hardly see a butterfly roaming these days... if only we could bring back this world to its simplest form... when the saying 'life is wealth' was not treated as literally as today... oh, what have we done to this world.. we have achieved the impossibles... from nothing to something... and now we're all in trouble... you weaved a very powerful piece in here and i am glad to read as the same time felt sad for all the truths you raised in here.

  21. Good day Kelvin! So nice of you to stop by and leave your thoughts! 'Tis tru..."how sad these changes are...all is getting endangered." So true.

Captain Paul Watson of the Steve Irwin has said the "...oceans are dying." As well as Dr. David Suzuki, who's done several brilliant shows on the oceans and sea life! We are in 'serious' trouble, but the people in 'power' don't care. It's hard to believe. It's like I belong to a sub-species of Lemmings!

And yes, "...now we're all in trouble..." Thanks so much for reading, commenting, and liking my bit of poetry! Have a good one!

  24. Roger - I believe we as writers, poets, artists have a message to convey to our peers (those who will listen) Your words always convey a message to me boldly without fear of reproach
I appreciate that - stand firm!

  25. Touching piece, we don't seem to want to face the havoc we create on ourselves, let alone the smallest eco systems that make up such important parts of our existence. I respect and honor how you presented words on their behalf. ~ Rose

  26. "once upon a time" is far from over. 'Son of Man' no matter how conscious of their actions will never heal the effect they have on this world nor stop from continuing to cause ill. but awareness can lessen the direct impact and help to preserve what still remains of this beautiful world. (forgive me if I sound cynical; my heart still clings to magical possibilities of healing.)

a very poignant and beautiful poem and message.

  29. Hi there Rose! nice to see you and have you leave your comment! Yes, "we [mankind] don't seem to want to face the havoc we create on ourselves..."

I just read a piece on the recent East coast earthquake, which the author felt may have been triggered by 'fracking'!

We are doing so much damage to the planet I can hardly believe it...when will our leaders wake-up they're not only destroying our planet but the bio-sphere which keeps us alive...and it's all about greed! So sad!

Thanks again Rose! I so appreciated reading your comments!

    Roger ☺

  30. Hi RMP! Gotta love your avi and what you say, "...my heart still clings to magical possibilities of healing..." There is magic still in the world...except it has been hidden by the illusion of plastic, baubles, trinkets, fake money, and greed in this Age of Materialism...a veritable Dark Age!

But, as the ancients wrote, "...there be hope of a tree, that if it be cut down, that the tender branch, thereof, shall not cease."

Hope! We live at the end of one age, and the beginning of another...

    Thanks againg,
    Roger ☺

  33. Beautiful. The poem presentation reminds me a great deal of the flutterpause of the butterfly and the image is gorgeous. I have captured a couple of shots of this species myself though not with your talent. By the way, I love your triplet offerings. It's a treat for all senses.
