The Great Game

Baut Images: The Iron Mask

Call a spade, a spade.
A club, a club.
A heart, a heart,
And a diamond, a diamond.

A spade, to dig your grave.
A club, to beat your wife.
A heart, to rend and wound.
And a diamond, made from blood.

And so it is
You play the great game!
The great game of Poker,
Whilst trying to outsmart one another,
And pretend, to be friends, when you're not.

Petty deceivers, most of all,
As you dance and piroette for wall streeters.
Smile and nod for politicos,
And skip and jump for the corporates;
Who rape you whilst you sleep.

Liars!
Fake friends!
Cheaters!
Poisoners!
You know who you are!

Duplicitous humankind.
You have sown the seeds
Of your own destruction.
So, go on and play your games,
Just know you're already the loser.

Call a spade, a spade.
A club, a club.
A heart, a heart,
And a diamond, a diamond.

Kali reigns supreme!

  1. I confess I am not familiar with some of your references, but there is clarity in the message of the "refrain" that is sadly lacking today.Glad you shared with us today.

  4. This works for me as an American poem (although you perhaps meant to be universal) in this great awful political season, this week of SOPA and PIPA. So often I see us as our own worst enemies.

  5. I love the card references, but... be gentle on the wife, now! It is a game of Poker isn't it?

  9. Hey Mark, certainly nice to have you stop by and leave your comment. Actually,I didn't think of it being 'universal' while writing, but it certainly could be...this stuff is surely going on in a lot of places.

Indeed, humankind has been its own worst enemy! Thanks again, Roger ☺

  10. Hi yah Laurie, nice to see you, and thanks for stopping by! Glad you liked the 'card' references, and of course I would hope so too, although 'unfortunately' there is 'actual' as well as 'virtual' clubbing going on in our society, and that is really quite sad!

Life can be, and often is a Poker game...

    Thanks again, Roger ☺

  11. Indeed, you say it like it is and I'm glad you do. The games of chance could easily undermine a lot of social bonds, n exactly the ays you describe? bravo.

"Kali reigns supreme... prefect ending my friend and I could feel your anguish...But then it happens and we need to take if forward in our stride..."

It certainly does, but, then, we know, as it is written, "This too shall pass away!"

    Thanks again Shashi! Roger ☺

  29. This hits hard with a condemnation for the games people play. Truth it seems is becoming and endangered species. Nice work!
