Seeds of Insanity

[Baut Images: Shattered Dreams]

They say it all started
when Cain slew Abel,
and the seeds of insanity were sown.

For who of a sane mind
would kill another,
and not even think it was wrong.

Then came the long march
of death and destruction
from Babylon to Egypt, then Rome.

Mighty Rome took it further
through conquest and legions;
by burning and salting the ground.

But empires rise, and empires fall,
as it seems they so often do,
and with avarice friend, build they tombs.

Then look to religions,
saving souls with fools gold;
shadow empires amongst all the rest.

Priestly travelers call
with their banners unfurled,
and a sword hung close at the hip.

Yes, they say it all started
when Cain slew Abel,
now those seeds have all fully grown.

Roger Allen Baut

This is once again in 'triplet' form of image, poem and music video.

  1. Fantastic write, Roger. I continue to be amazed by your triplets! The whole presentation is ace, but I think my favorite lines would have to be:

"But empires rise, and empires fall,
as it seems they so often do,
and with avarice friend, build they tombs."

    Great work!

  2. Thank you so much for your thoughts Stephen! I really appreciate seeing them. I think my favorite lines are the same as yours...we're seeing that unfold right before our eyes!

Glad you continue to like my 'triplet' form w/image, poem and vid! I'm waiting to see you make one...I'm sure it would be fantastic too!

    Thanks again Stephen!

  3. yep i think it all started then but we can stop it any time..instead we go on and on and empires rise and fall and the slaughter goes on - and who will ever stop this madness...

  4. Hi Claudia! Thanks for stopping by, and you are so correct as you say, "yep i think it all started then but we can stop it any time..instead we go on and on..."

And that's the sad thing, the slaughter can be stopped at any time...except methinks there's too much profit in it...I have heard the US is the biggest 'arms' dealer in the world...

On and on it goes, as "empires rise and fall."

    Thanks again,
    Roger ☺

  6. Hi there ayala! Nice to have you stop by and read your sentiments! Yes, indeed, who's going to stop this madness?

Well, the planet probably will stop the madness, because it's dying and will in the not too distant future be unable to support life as we know it.

That's the worst part, humankind is killing not only itself, but all other life on the planet too. Unfortunate!

    Thanks again ayala!

  7. grisly truth...yet now we slay on in our attempts to appease god with our offerings...or in his name...that one day we might learn...

  8. Hi Brian! Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comments! Yes, indeed, as you say, "grisly truth."

Until humankind learns to subdue it's materialistic nature...the seeds of insanity will always be there...

    Thanks again Brian!

  15. Hi darkangelwrites! Yes, indeed, it is a sad commentary on the lack of humankind's evolution. If we could ever get aravice, greed, and materialism out of our blood, we might be able to create a new age for humankind!

    Thanks again,
    Roger ☺

  16. Greetings Bar None Publishing Group! Nice to have you stop by and leave your thoughts!

I do think there's hope for humankind...a Renaissance is possible, but only by people working together for the benefit of all people, not just a 'select' few.

One day, "...there be hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that the tender branch, thereof, shall not cease."

    Thanks again,
    Roger ☺

  17. Powerful and compelling presentation Roger. The triplet form you've created lends even more power to the timely wisdom you speak. The new age IS dawning, all be it quite slowly.

  22. Oh, I do love that last stanza. It really drives the point home. And, and excellent song choice to accompany your verse.

  23. This was an awesome triplet--your amazing photo to start off, a solid write, and then that excellent video. Your second stanza asks the one question no one seems ever able to answer. Great stuff here.

  24. Great write Roger. Quite shocking in reminding the truth, written with such skill. Your piece flows elegantly, and I like the half refraining first and last stanzas. Makes it sad in its resignation.

  28. Murder...war...one of the most unfortunate bits of the human experience, yet one so intricately woven into the pscyhe, it seems. Time doesn't teach us to refrain, merely to grow better in the execution.

    Fully grown, indeed. Fine work!

  30. Religion and empire to closely aligned, too much power behind the sword now. And I'm with Claudia, we can stop anytime...is it that so many are too proud to put down their sword?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi and thanks for stopping by Joanne! Good question, "...is it that so many are too proud to put down their sword?"

I'm not sure, but it seems that this negative side of humankind has been rolling along for a long time!

I read some research on the last 10,000 years that homo spaiens has been in North America, and it's certainly been a bad time period, especially with the destruction of so many native species of plants and animals.

Then with the coming of the Europeans, especially the conquistadores and then the 'church,' there was an increase in destruction of Native/North Americans for power and gold. Not to mention the 'disease' that was brought to the 'peoples' inhabiting the Americas. Sad!

At this time, I believe, certain people are so used to power trips, greed, lust for money, that they are probably blind to anything outside their own self-absorbtion.

President Eisenhower 'warned' of the industrial-military complex (MIC), or Military–industrial-congressional complex (MICC). I think that's is exactly where we are.

From what I've read, the US is the largest overt & covert 'arms' dealer in the world! Unfortunately...we've reached the tipping point, and it really doesn't matter what happens...as Earth's biosphere is collapsing, the oceans and sea life are dying, and we are already at a global crisis for clean water...

"The moving finger writes, and then moves on," Gibran...

Thanks again Joanne, appreciate you stopping by!

  32. You see our predicament clearly. Tom Jefferson said after the Constitution was drafted, "I give you the new Rome!" He turned out to be only too right about that. We splatter the world with blood and seem unable to step back from any macho war. Fortunately, this arms madness is bankrupting us and the unfareness of our system is now manifest. Mr. Obama, tear down this Wall!
